Getting Back in Shape


It’s been three months since I gave birth and I think it’s high time that I get back into shape. I’ve gained around 25 lbs when I was pregnant with Sinag. With Tala 4 years ago, I gained over 40lbs. In this pregnancy, I really made a conscious effort not to gain too much lest I end up being overweight again. We all know how hard it is to shed off the post-birth weight! It took me three years when I had Tala!

To date, I’ve lost 22lbs. That photo was taken two weeks ago while I was shopping for shoes haha. I attribute the weight loss to breastfeeding. Yey for that! However, I still sport a huge saggy pouch on ze belly, thighs and arms that need some toning pronto! I also need to get back to an active lifestyle to build more strength now that I’m a mom of two (which is twice as challenging!). I also need to start eating healthy as I haven’t been the healthiest eater. Desserts, sweets, carbs…you name it! I know you can’t diet when you’re breastfeeding but the sugar and carb overload won’t exactly help me get back into shape. I’ve also been feeling heavy and bloated which is not a good thing.

Today I’m giving myself a deadline. I will enjoy all the sweets and carbs that I want and by tomorrow, I will have to start cutting back. It’s not going to be easy since I crave sweets all the time! Goodbye sweet coffee. Goodbye after-meal desserts. Goodbye chocolate. Goodbye two cups of rice! Okay this is turning into a depressing post haha.

On the flip side, once I start giving up the junk, I’ll have more space for healthy stuff like fruits, veggies and fiber-rich food. In the long run, the healthy food will improve the quality of my milk so the LO will benefit from that too. As for exercise, I regret having sold the bike last year. Boohoo. Would have been easy to shed off the excess weight with a few spins a day. Now I have to look for another convenient way to exercise. Running, Zumba? Maybe I’ll just squeeze in some squats while carrying the baby haha. I don’t know. I’ll figure it out. I’m crossing my fingers that I can be beach-bod ready in time for the summer. Hay. Wish me luck!

  1. Wow! few more pounds and you’re back in shape… I am also thinking of shedding these excess pounds that I gained. When I got sick last year super duper namayat ako and I didn’t like what I saw sa mirror, napaghalataang galing sa sakit. And I believe I over ate (hahaha!) and since summer/vacation is around the corner, I guess it’s high time that I take care of myself so that by the time school begins for my girls, I am fit and ready to face the “normal” routine I have. me? I will try running, the cheapest form of exercise, so I read. hahaha! good luck and post pics….

    • Thanks Grech! You look fit enough already! You’re right. Running is the cheapest form of exercise. I wish I could do it more regularly though. Last time I went running was last month haha. Good luck to us!

    • Thanks Mars! I was around 40 lbs heavier too with Tala! I literally ate for two. As in two times my appetite haha! This time around I was really careful with my eating. As in I used my doctor’s advise as an indicator on whether I should eat more or less. There were times when she’d say I need to eat more and at some point she was like “preno lang sa pagkain ha. diet ka muna” haha. That’s when I cut back considerably but still chose healthy food to make sure me and ze bebe were properly nourished šŸ™‚
