The best trips are those which are unplanned. You know…the ‘get up and go’ type of trips which are as rare as a blue moon. Oh yes, especially with kids around. Luckily, we had one of those rare “blue moon” moments during the long weekend when our kid went to the province with her grandparents.
Mr. D finished his work late Friday night and since it was just me and him at home, we decided to hit the beach on Saturday. We had no reservations whatsoever and we merely got directions from Google. Our destination was Laiya in San Juan Batangas. We left at 4:30am and finally arrived in Laiya at 8:30am.
Given that it was the holy week, as expected all resorts were booked. Some were even booked months in advance. We jumped from one resort to the next asking for available rooms but to no avail. Instead of going on a panicking frenzy, we just chilled by the beach and rented a cabana over at Taramindu Beach Resort while we figured things out. And while in the cabana, we busied ourselves with these …

And lounged around in our swimsuits, which by the way I consider to be a proud moment. After 6 months, I was finally able to shed off 40lbs. just by good old diet and exercise. I can proudly say that I can now wear a bikini top! At 33, I consider this to be my best body ever…C-section scar, stretch marks and bike scratches included. 🙂
Much later that day, we finally found a room in Casa Dolores. Actually, it was a music room that they simply converted into an instant “hotel” room just to accommodate us poor wandering earthlings. Since we really didn’t have much of a choice, we decided to book it. Let me describe the room to you. It has no windows, just an exhaust fan. Good thing it was fully-air conditioned but there was no TV. It just had a mattress and pillows on the floor plus a wooden table and two stools. We had to share a balcony, lounge area and common bathroom with the other guests. Not exactly your ideal suite but since beggars can’t be choosers we decided to make the most of the situation. Besides, it gave us something to laugh about. We were literally in a box. It was hilarious.
And what do you know, since that room saw to it that we were free from any distraction whatsoever, we slept like a baby. We were off to lala land by 8pm. haha. Naturally as we went to sleep quite early, we were up insanely early as well. At 3am, we decided to take a walk by the beach and watch the stars in the sky. It was quite romantic actually. Pardon the cheese.
Three hours later, we witnessed the sun as it slowly peeked over the horizon. In a few moments it took its throne amongst the clouds and bathed the sky and sea with its warm golden light. That very moment took our breaths away. It made our Easter morning simply sublime.
For beautiful moments like this, I wouldn’t mind having more spontaneous out-of-town trips. I really wouldn’t. 🙂
